Watching the incredible "Across the Spider-Verse" movie inspired me to draw two of my favorite characters, Miguel O'Hara and Gwen Stacy, while exploring a new art style. I strayed from my usual use of smooth airbrushes in Procreate and experimented with pencil-like brushes, which coincidentally resembled the original animation style. This was the first time I'd ever depicted such dramatic lighting, but it was a challenge I enjoyed. I relied on my reference images to make sure that the light fell on the faces realistically and the colors transitioned smoothly. I also decided to make the line art a part of the end product, something I typically shied away from as I believed it took away from the realism effect. Leaving it made me realize that I can still make people look life-like while maintaining the cartoon style.
